Staff Spotlight: Meet Viva Las Vegas Wedding Planner, Blaze!

Vegas Wedding Planner
Blaze makes sure you feel at ease and takes care of all your wedding day details!

Here’s the first in a series of interviews with the friendly and talented crew at Viva Las Vegas Weddings. We thought you’d like to get to know our wedding staffers a bit better as we highlight their stories here on the blog. And please feel free to ask questions in the comments section, if you’d like to learn more about the wide range of services each staff member can provide for your upcoming wedding!

“I LOVE just about everything about my work at Viva Las Vegas Weddings,” exclaims professional wedding planner/wedding coordinator Blaze. Blaze is a rarity in the Wedding Capital of the World–he’s a native Las Vegan, and he’s been with us at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel for nearly two years. Blaze has become an amiable, familiar face to many couples who’ve recently passed through our doors to be married. “My favorite part of the job is assembling the sets and props for the various themed weddings. People don’t realize that we can completely change the look of the chapel from a Gothic graveyard setting to an Old West scene for our Western weddings. And it all takes place in the blink of an eye!”

Blaze is also the guy who coordinates many of the more traditional weddings here. Every day he walks couples through their paces before their guests are seated, making sure the bride has her bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere is pinned on correctly. Blaze has an amazing knack for putting nervous couples at ease, “talking them down” and soothing any anxiety about the ceremony.

Blaze brings to the chapel his background as a makeup artist, too. His skills with a cosmetic brush plus his innate flair for the theatrical come in really handy for the chapel’s Halloween weddings. “Everyone on staff gets into costume and character on that night. I’m always here to give a helping hand for Zombie Elvis, Dracula, Frankenstein–even a classic glamour makeup is sometimes required!”

“Blazing” through Halloween weddings with his devilish sense of fun!

When asked about his least favorite part of the job, Blaze admits, “Sometimes the in-laws can be a little too involved, often making brides and grooms unnecessarily anxious, or upsetting the couple because the advice they’re getting is NOT what they had in mind.” He explains that being tactful with in-laws-to-be is not always easy, and sometimes getting a message across may not go perfectly. “We try to explain that the wedding day belongs to the brides and grooms. To us, they come first.”

We asked Blaze about the funniest thing he’s seen at a wedding, since a chapel with dozens of Elvis, themed and even traditional weddings can attest to a unique story to tell about each and every ceremony. “Once on a really busy weekend, the chapel owner Ron Decar was making a quick change from a tailored minister’s suit to a bustier, lipstick and pearls to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in one of our Rocky’s Horror themed weddings. Well, Ron was throwing on his costume pieces as fast as he could, and with big, frantic eyes, he called out, ‘It’s SHOW-bizzy!”

Blaze describes the WORST thing he’s seen happen–NOT very funny at the time, but somehow hilarious in retrospect: “On a really hot summer day, we were getting ready to do an Elvis wedding with a pink Cadillac entrance. Just before the doors of the chapel were thrown open so Elvis could drive the couple down the aisle, we heard a HUGE explosion from outside. When we opened the doors, there was ‘Elvis” in a big cloud of black smoke standing by the backfiring car. It was a real mess!” Somehow, everything turned out fine in the end…

Just as in ANY wedding, the little disasters often make the wedding more memorable, and generally it IS funny, AFTER the fact! More than 99% of the time, though, things go off without a hitch.

What’s Blaze’s best advice for Las Vegas brides and grooms? “Make sure your wedding is all about YOU. It’s easy to try to please family members and make compromises, but ultimately you want the wedding that expresses who YOU are. And that’s something we’re here to help with.”

If you’re planning to elope or even to have a big, elegant wedding here at one of Viva Las Vegas’s chapels, look for Blaze and say “hello!” He’ll have lots of stories to tell, and he’ll certainly want to hear yours!

Intergalactic Space Themed Wedding
Mike and Nicole tied the knot recently in an Intergalactic Themed Wedding!…Mmmmm…This gives us an idea for a Sherlock Holmes themed wedding…

Did you know that your Viva Las Vegas Wedding includes a free wedding website that doubles as an invitation? It’s your very own page where you can post photos and write a brief blog about how you met and how the proposal played out. You can also list the reasons why you chose to get married in Vegas. We love reading the stories of couples meeting and getting engaged! Couples often include whatever sweet and romantic tidbits they want to share with family and friends. Your personal wedding web page is also the site where your wedding can be viewed live and streaming via the Internet, should you wish. You can even choose to archive the video. That way, it can be watched by anyone, even weeks later.

Star Trek like wedding in Vegas
Mike reads his vows to Nicole as uniformed attendants stand by.

Mike and Nicole used their wedding webpage to alert family and friends, letting them know that Starfleet uniforms were in order for the ceremony. They had a fabulous time, with guests bringing along a pack of tribbles to toss at the couple as they exited the chapel–instead of rice! The two took advantage of every option to customize their ceremony, including life-sized cutouts of Next Gen crew as part of the backdrop and ordering up a romantic “First Dance” at the end of their ceremony. The guests were all dancing in the aisles, too, by the end.

Your wedding website is the way to get the word out! Natalie and Gertjan announced their wedding plans on a international scale. Couples from all over the globe marry at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. Their stories and the ability to live stream their ceremonies is an even more important feature for world-traveling newlyweds! We’ll share Natalie and Gertjan’s sweet story from their webpage below:

How We Met

On the 26th of July 2014 we were on a international bike event in Amsterdam. After a few days cruising across the Netherlands we had a big party with a lot of other cruisers from around the world. On that evening I showed my first interest in Nathalie by giving here a little shoulder massage. But after about 10 minutes I didn’t know what to do next so I walked away. Nathalie was thinking and what next??? About 30 minutes later we took a picture together and that was all. We became friends on Facebook and started to like everything from each other. 2 months later we were again on a international bike event in Paris. That was on Friday the 19nt of September. Nathalie was all ready for a day in Paris and I arrived on the 19nt of September. On that day the cruisers from Paris organized a night-cruise across Paris. The plan was to see all the cruisers by the Bar le Komptoir. When we saw each other all the people and stuff around us disappeared. We had just the look on each other. We said hello and Nathalie was feeling ok there is more. She did the step and spoke all time with me and cruised next to me. On our way to the Sacre Cour we left us out the eyes. There Nathalie was searching another Cruiser she travelled with, cause her bottle holder was broken. Thijs another cruiser said to me I think there is someone looking for you. I searched Nathalie and when I found her I wanted to visit the church with her. I said to her that I heard that she was searching me {in fact she wasn’t} she answered ok when the people it say it must be true. I hugged her and gave her our first right kiss in front of the Church. We cruised all night together and it was all just magic. Saturday evening we talked about how it should go on with us. We decided to try it a German Dutch relationship on the weekend. It worked well. After 7 months of travelling every weekend I moved to Germany. Now short to say I found my perfect little Family with Billy our cat.

The Proposal

Gertjan and I were talking all time before about getting married. About planning our own Family and the other pro things a wedding brings to us. It was new years eve and we were at home from our Friends Sandra and Dennis and we decided to try out and go to a Chinese restaurant in February. What I didn’t know was the fact that Gertjan planned to ask me that Evening if I want to be his wife. So everybody around me was knowing. Even the cutest thing was he also asked my Dad for my Hand (I sayed to Gertjan that this MUST be done and he did it). So the date came it was the 13th of February, he was before working. And when he came home I was thinking ok was he having a bad day at work? We wanted to met our Friends around 6 o’clock this evening. And even at 4 o’clock he asked me if we should clean up our aquarium I was thinking no in 2 hours we must be there and I must make me still ready. What I didn’t know was he was so nervous and must do something. We met our friends and we started to eat and i was talking all time with Sandra and Gertjan was getting more nervous. I wanted to take Sandra’s little baby Girl Anna on my Arms but she said no. That was strange cause I normally can do it every time. Then Gertjan came to me, down on his knees. he wanted a kiss. I gave him one. Then everybody put out their phones…I was thinking ok what is going on here??? I think I should turn to Gertjan. I just saw his eyes and I started to cry cause I know what was coming. Than he asked me and I said of course Yes. He put the ring on my finger and was just hugging him all the time. On the rest of the evening I couldn’t believe this and of course my hunger was away.

Viva Las Vegas Wedding

After that he asked me we where thinking about how should we getting married. After a few days we found out that a normal wedding in a normal church not fits to us. And it was ever my dream to travel to the USA and going to make an Road trip. We needed something International. And it sounded perfect for us. Meeting in Amsterdam, starting the Relationship in Paris and getting married in Las Vegas.

Best wishes to these and all of our happily married couples who have honored us with pics and touching tales of their love. Keep ’em coming!
