Aaron Wins Big In Vegas!!!

          So, you’re on your way out of town. Your destination is Vegas. It’s a hot summer day. Your lucky number is 10 and your favorite color is black. You arrive at the Roulette table with your Bride of 10 years on your arm, and place your bet. You feel LUCKY! You go all in. You are looking to have an unforgettable weekend in Las Vegas. You are only there to win. As the roulette wheel starts to spin, you turn to your Bride and you say..” will you marry me again?” Your beautiful blushing Bride says ‘Yes” with as much excitement as the first time you asked ten years ago. You lay a big smooch on her and the world is completely shut out just for that moment. It’s just you Aaron and Jennah. Then you here, Black 10! You’re a winner. Wow,what a way to start your weekend in Vegas! A DOUBLE WIN…

          Well, I know it all sounds so movie like, but boy when I saw the two of you and the rest of your entourage come out of the Casino…this is where I went. I guess you could say I have a colorful imagination. I like to call it technicolor. Ha ha. Your costumes were just great. You came to Vegas to play, win and have some fun. Aaron and Jennah chose a themed vow renewal for their fun. Congratulations on 10 years of marriage. I love the fact that everyone stayed in costume for the rest of the evening. Ya see, it doesn’t just have to be Halloween to dress up. You were the talk of the town. I can only imagine what that smokey room would have looked like back in the day. You really looked as if you stepped out of time and were ready to whoop it up ” Old Vegas Style.” I watched people as you would walk by, and I too think they were visiting that black and white movie screen. Aaron is in the heating and cooling business, and Jennah is a teacher. So I guess Aaron will forever remain” Hot For Teacher.” Sounds like a great song titlte huh????

1. Shag Carpet on the Ceiling

If you’ve ever been to his house in Graceland, you know what we’re talking about. If not, it is simply something to be experienced. In several rooms of his gigantic mansion in Memphis, not only is there shag carpet all over the floor, he had it installed on the freaking ceiling!

Luckily, Elvis never found out that shag carpet went out of style, and it’s there to always be remembered for anyone taking the pilgrimage out to Tennessee.

2. The Elvis Sandwich

Bananas. Peanut butter. Bacon. Three great tastes that no one had ever thought of before Elvis came along and introduced it to the world. Now, people around the world have tried and fallen in love with the absolutely ridiculous sandwich aptly named “The Elvis.”

Yeah, it ended up killing Elvis, but he was notorious for eating them every day. As with all decadence, enjoy in moderation, folks!

3. Rhinestone Jumpsuit

Come on, who else could actually pull this off? Rhinestones were a staple of the country music world for a while, but only Elvis could make it part of his mythos.

Not only did he pull off a rhinestone encrusted jumpsuit, he also wore a cape! If you’re not a Baron or a superhero, you absolutely should not be allowed to wear a cape. But Elvis somehow managed to just make it work.

4. He Changed Music

Back when he was just getting started out, Elvis made a seemingly innocuous appearance on the Milton Berle show. He and his band performed a song first recorded by Willie Mae Thornton in 1952, called “Hound Dog,” much in the same way he had been performing for years before, by sashaying and swaying his hips to the music.

He had no way of knowing the world would explode! Parents everywhere lost their minds, while teenage girls’ hearts practically thumped out of their chests. He was dubbed “Elvis the Pelvis” and protests were heard in town halls everywhere. Unfortunately for the offended, the face (and hips) of music was instantly changed forever.

5. He Started His Car by Shooting it!

Elvis bought a 1971 De Tomaso Pantera for his girlfriend Linda Thompson but often drove it himself. Unfortunately, the engine was kind of a dud. When the car broke down, stranding him in the middle of Memphis, Elvis had about had enough. He had the car towed back to Graceland where it still wouldn’t start. While regaling the story to his friend George Klein, Elvis took out a gun and shot the car…and it started!

An avid collector of guns and other memorabilia, Elvis would go on to blow even more holes into the poor car. Luckily someone bought it after his death and had it fixed up, but the memory of Elvis’ eccentricity lives on forever with stories like this.

How do I know? Because I’ve done it myself!

I met my wife late last summer. I quickly proposed (fearing someone attractive might snatch her up!) and we started our plans for the wedding. It being her second marriage and my second engagement, neither of us cared to revisit the hassles of a traditional wedding. We wanted something fun. An Elvis wedding in Las Vegas it is!

For a “cheap Vegas wedding” it was certainly more romantic, fun and tear-inducing than even we had imagined. Friends showed up literally from all over the U.S. to attend and those abroad watched on live video feed. We had a great Elvis wedding, a fun and unpretentious ceremony, and we both finally got what we’d wanted since we first locked eyes: to be married to one another.

There was nothing “bogus” or “cheap” about it. It was not a marriage borne out of convenience or drinking (that was the night before, duh!), it was purely out of love and wanting our wedding to be OUR wedding. It was shiny, noisy, and yes, a little cheesy. It was fantastic.

So if you’re reading this and for some reason of the opinion that the weddings at Viva Las Vegas wedding chapel are just cheap Vegas weddings, think that no longer. Don’t believe what you see in the movies – I can personally tell you that although the prices are low, it doesn’t mean what you get is a cheap substitute!

1. Slip Hints in During Conversation

Try inserting hints into everyday conversation with your loved one. If they have Las Vegas on their mind, eventually they’ll at least allow you to show them why you want to visit Sin City for your nuptials!

Examples:

Future Spouse: “Can you go out to get some milk?”

You: “Sure thing. I’ll go to the corner store, where they have those little slot machines like they have everywhere in beautiful Las Vegas.”

Future Spouse: “What kind of cufflinks should I get for the wedding?”

You: “How about some with dice on them, like they have at every craps table in beautiful Las Vegas?”

Future Spouse: “Well, I’m off to work. Love you.”

You: “VEGAS!!!!”

2. Only Play Elvis Music and Movies

Throw out all your old movies and music…well, ok, don’t throw them out, but go out and grab all the Elvis tunes and flicks you can find. Whenever your significant other is around, have an Elvis movie on in the background! Of course, the best selection is “Viva Las Vegas!”

Going out to the movies? Listen to “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis on the way there and mention how great it would be to have that played at your wedding! Lounging around at the pool? Sing along to “Hound Dog” and stare your fiancée straight in the eye. Soon you’ll be planning your own Elvis wedding.

3. Pretend you’re at a Casino wherever you go

You’re at a fancy restaurant for a night out with your fiancée. Every time the waiter brings you something, get overly excited. When the meal comes out, jump up in your chair like you won a huge hand in poker!

Or say you’re getting a Coke out of a vending machine. When the bottle comes tumbling out, scream “Jackpot!” like a Lord of the Rings slots machine just spilled tokens all over your shoes from the huge winnings!

Eventually, your future spouse will catch the fever of fun and excitement that only Las Vegas can offer and you will soon be on the plane there!

4. Get Parents on your Side

The average traditional wedding costs around $20,000 these days. Both your parents and your fiancée’s parents are going to flip when they see how much money they can save by letting you run off to Vegas for the wedding! Even if they join you, it’s still a huge bundle of savings to let us do all the hard work for you.

After the parents are on your side, it’s only a matter of time until your future spouse caves and will at least talk to you about the possibility of going. This also goes for siblings, cousins, best friends, and whoever delivers your mail!

5. Bribery

If all else fails, it’s time for bribery! That new car they’ve wanted to buy? It’s totally theirs if you two get married in Las Vegas. Fiancée wants to paint the bathroom bright pink? Done. Just get the tickets for Sin City. Going potty while sitting in a giant box of Pepto Bismol is worth it!

First recorded by Willie Mae Thornton in 1952, “Hound Dog” became popular when Elvis got a hold of it in 1956 and played it during an appearance on the Milton Berle show. This was the same television appearance that sparked controversy across the nation and had parents everywhere balking at “Elvis the Pelvis.” During the recording of the song, Elvis insisted on getting a perfect performance, and ultimately recorded 31 takes of the song before getting it the way we hear it today.

(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear

“Teddy Bear” was the third of four #1 hit singles Elvis had in 1957. Not only was it #1 on the pop charts, it also was his fourth #1 single on the R&B chart and even had a week-long stint at #1 on Country charts! The song was co-written by Bernie Lowe, who helped start the careers of Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker.

(You’re the) Devil in Disguise

His last top ten single on the R&B charts, “Devil in Disguise” still reached #3 on the Pop charts in the United States. However, it was a much bigger hit in the UK, reaching #1 on the charts and selling over 500,000 units, certifying it as a “Gold” record. Famously, when John Lennon heard the song, he said it sounded like Elvis had become like Bing Crosby! We all make mistakes, John.

Blue Hawaii

The title track from Elvis’ 1961 movie of the same name, “Blue Hawaii” is a remake of a (coincidentally enough) Bing Crosby song from 1937. The soundtrack to the movie, the first of three based in Hawaii, spent 79 weeks on the Pop Albums charts, 20 of those at #1! Last but not least, the reason why we are who we are! Though the film Viva Las Vegas is considered one of Elvis’ best films, the soundtrack was mired by budget strains and bad decisions.
