Elvis would be celebrating his 82nd birthday this week on January 8th. As always, The King of Rock ‘n Roll will be foremost in our thoughts as we perform our many Elvis wedding ceremonies for couples who are dedicated fans, or who just enjoy the light-hearted nostalgia surrounding the memory of the legendary performer.

Elvis birthday wedding
Don’t forget your Elvis cake and cake-topper to go!

Elvis’s birthday has always been a popular wedding day here at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. It may be too late to book your wedding ceremony or vow renewal for Elvis’s birthday this year, but if you’re planning a spring wedding and are huge Elvis fans, May 1st will be the anniversary of Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding. What a great excuse to arrange an Elvis Pink Caddy or Elvis Blue Hawaii wedding in Las Vegas! Elvis and his bride were married at the old Aladdin Hotel (now Planet Hollywood) in Las Vegas. Many couples dress up as Elvis and Priscilla for their kitschy wedding at Viva Las Vegas’s Main Chapel, or in our fantastic 1950s Doo Wop Diner Chapel. If you don’t have your own costumes, we do rent them in our costume shop. For more casual weddings, we sell just the “shades with sideburns” and bridal veils, too. (Some brides may prefer to dress as “Marilyn.” We’ve got you covered with our wide range of themed costume choices.)

Famous Couples Married in Las Vegas (Part 1: Classic Couples)

Viva Las Vegas weddings
Las Vegas Weddings….Not just for the rich and famous, but for couples in love!

Las Vegas, known as the entertainment AND wedding capital of the world, issues more than 100,000 marriage licenses every year. Most of these marriages involve your “average” loving couple, but many famous celebrities have tied the knot here over the years, too.

Sadly–and it’s no surprise (judging from tabloid news)— celebrity Vegas weddings seem less likely to “stick” than the “average” ones. The evidence is written in movie star history. Take for example Mickey Rooney, who got married to Ava Gardner in January of 1942 at The Little Church of the West. Even though their marriage only lasted a couple of years, Rooney returned to marry seven other brides (one at a time) at the same chapel. You’d think he might have switched it up a little, choosing a different venue for every bride…?

…No disrespect intended to any other chapel, but THAT’S a good reason to choose Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel for your vows…No bad Rooney wedding karma! In fact, we are rather proud to say that after 16 years of doing weddings at Viva Las Vegas, we’ve actually had many couples return to renew their vows in five, ten, or fifteen years with us. One day two weeks ago, a Viva Las Vegas first, EVERY ceremony held at the chapel was a wedding vow RENEWAL! Go, MARRIAGE!

More movie star weddings: At age 50, Frank Sinatra married the barely-legal Mia Farrow in Las Vegas 1966. That marriage broke up fairly quickly after Farrow didn’t show up on the set for a movie Sinatra had lined up, starring her. (Apparently, the filming of Rosemary’s Baby ran long. And, presumably, that’s the reason divorce ensued…Sinatra must have really been mad…)

Movie legends Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward fared better. They were wed in January of 1958 at the El Rancho Hotel and Casino. Their marriage was a shining example for Hollywood, and the two remained married until Newman’s death in 2008.

Las Vegas wedding flowers
Apparently some wedding bouquets last longer than celebrity Vegas weddings….sigh….

Probably the most high-profile wedding in the history of Las Vegas was the marriage of Elvis Presley (then 32) and 21-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu. The ceremony took place at the Aladdin Hotel (now Planet Hollywood) on May 1, 1967. The wedding itself was quite intimate with close family and friends, but a huge reception banquet followed. Here at Viva Las Vegas, we see plenty of re-enactments of the Elvis and Priscilla wedding–and we even rent the costumes! Later in the week: More recent celebrity weddings in Las Vegas. Some hits, a few flops…

Sharing Elvis and Priscilla’s Las Vegas Wedding Anniversary!

Elvis chauffeur for Vegas wedding
Elvis, does Priscilla know about all the hot babes going to the chapel in your car?
Coming up May 1st will be the 47th wedding anniversary of Elvis Presley and his beautiful bride, Priscilla! They were married in Las Vegas at the former Aladdin Hotel, now Planet Hollywood. We’ve got some of the nostalgic footage, below.

We’ve been doing Elvis weddings (as well as the traditional ones) at Viva Las Vegas Weddings for over 15 years, so we know to expect a few Priscilla’s and Elvi walking down the aisle on that iconic date. (We also arrange for costumes and wigs, for those enthusiastic fans who want to dress up as E & P for their own Vegas wedding.) For those die-hard Elvis fans, sharing an anniversary with Priscilla and The King makes choosing a wedding date a no-brainer. (Elvis’s birthday is pretty big day at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel, too!)

Believe it or not, our Elvis weddings are done in the most elegant traditional style. Some couples prefer a licensed minister to officiate, with Elvis singing a romantic ballad during the vows. But most fans want Elvis to perform the ceremony instead, even if the bride is in a formal gown and the groom’s wearing tails. Our newest package is called “Elvis Picks You Up.” You can be chauffeured to your wedding by The King himself in his vintage ’64 Pink Caddy!

For more information on our Elvis wedding packages, including the grand Pink Cadillac entrance down the aisle, or the “Elvis Picks You Up” package, visit our website at www.vivalasvegasweddings.com

Barbie + Elvis = Priscilla? Formulas for Setting the Perfect Wedding Date

They say spouses begin to look alike after a few years of marriage, but sometimes couples start out like matched bookends. Take, for example, Elvis and Priscilla. We’re commemorating the upcoming 46th wedding anniversary of Elvis and his doll-like bride by sharing this photo of Priscilla-look-alike Barbie. (Who knew, Barbie collectors.) Elvis and Priscilla were married on May 1, 1967, at the Aladdin hotel in Las Vegas. (Today it’s Planet Hollywood, for all you Vegas trivia lovers.)

Because we’ve been in the Elvis wedding business for some time now, we expect to be seeing a few Priscilla’s and Elvi walking down the aisle at Viva Las Vegas on that special date. (And, yes, we can provide costumes and wigs, if you don’t bring your own.) For die hard Elvis fans, sharing an anniversary with Priscilla and The King makes choosing a wedding date a no-brainer.

Once you’ve found your mate, how will you go about setting the date? Some folks find it romantic to marry on the anniversary of the day they first met. Traditionalists might choose parents’ or grandparents’ anniversaries to tie the knot. Holiday-themed weddings are popular with us, so you’ll want to call us early!  At Viva Las Vegas, the memorably-numbered dates book far in advance–11-12-13 and 12-13-14 will fill up fast! (Our most history-making dates have been 10-10-10 and 11-11-11, not to mention 12-12-12. We are fresh out of those perfectly-repeating digits for awhile, though.)
Give your special day a bit of special thought. Choose a date that reflects the uniqueness of you as a couple. It may be too late this year to wed on Elvis’s anniversary, but there’s always his birthday…
