Update: Same-Sex Marriage in Nevada/Las Vegas

Elvis weddings Las Vegas
We hope one day soon to kick up our heels with Elvis at EVERYONE’s legal Viva Las Vegas wedding!

Here’s an update on the oral arguments heard this Monday regarding same-sex marriage in Nevada. While there’s no decision yet, many in attendance were cautiously optimistic that the ban will soon be overturned. And, it does seem that most folks think that would be the right thing to do. In 2013, a survey of Nevada voters indicated that most people favor amending the state constitution to provide for legal same-sex marriage. The results of the survey showed that 57 percent favored gay marriage, and 36 percent were opposed.

The panel of judges in the 9th District Court will probably rule later this year. The 9th circuit presides over nine Western states, and most legal experts expect the panel to support the dissolution of same-sex marriage bans. It’s thought that if the panel overturns the ban in Nevada, and if no stays are granted, it could be just weeks before same-sex weddings can be performed here in Las Vegas.

A statement released by the ACLU of Nevada said, “Same-sex couples choose to marry for the same reasons as opposite-sex couples: love, family, children, community, and sharing and spending their lives together as one. We are confident that the Ninth Circuit will uphold the rule of law and equal protection for the plaintiffs in Sevcik v Sandoval and all same-sex couples. The time has come to reverse Nevada’s discriminatory definition of marriage and live up to our moniker as the Marriage Capital of the World.”

We heartily agree. At Viva Las Vegas Weddings, we believe in marriage. Marriage strengthens the bond and commitment between people. And we see that as only a good thing.

How to Get Married in Las Vegas

Getting marriage license Las Vegas
What to do before you say “I Do” in Las Vegas
After you’ve booked your amazing Elvis, themed, or traditional wedding package at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel (the best and most fun place to get hitched in Vegas), what’s next? Once you’ve arrived in Las Vegas and settled into your hotel, you’ll need to make a trip downtown to the Clark County Marriage Bureau. Unless you’re renewing your vows, you’ll need a license. (The good news: No waiting period, no blood test. Once you have that license, you’re good to go!)

It’s really easy to find the Marriage Bureau with your GPS navigation thingie, but cab drivers know the place well, too. (201 Clark Avenue, NW corner of 3rd Street and Clark.) We recommend getting your license the day before your wedding, so it’s less stressful. But, if you have a later afternoon or evening wedding, you should be fine getting it the morning of your ceremony.

To make it even easier, you can go online (up to 60 days ahead) to Click on the Marriage Pre-Application, to be completed for both the bride and the groom. Print and bring these forms with you to the Marriage Bureau so you can get “express lane” service when you arrive. The Bureau is open until midnight during the week, 24 hours on weekends. You’ll need $60 cash (or $65 credit card); money orders and cashier’s checks are also accepted. You’ll need to show ID (check Bureau site for details on requirements) for both parties.

Once you’ve got your license, be sure to bring it with you to the chapel at the time of your wedding. We can do the ceremony if you’ve forgotten the rings, but not if you don’t have your license in hand!

Remember, if you have ANY questions or concerns about your upcoming wedding with us, call one of our patient and friendly staffers at 702-384-0771. Or visit our website at to chat live online. We’ll make sure every aspect of your wedding is a breeze. Viva Las Vegas!

A Cardboard Groom Will Step into Wholly Matrimony!

She said,” I Love you”, to her cardboard hunk, he said ( crickets sound off ). She has a ring, a bachelorette party, a wedding and a reception planned. She is so in love with Edward that she doesn’t mind that he’s quiet. He seems like a stand up guy. She is set to have her wedding, and cake, and eat it too. This lovely Las Vegas resident is about to say ‘I-do,” to a fellow she hardly knows.

Ok, well, she is writing her thesis and she is writing it about the female escapist fantasy in regards to love. She is about to wed the cardboard cutout of the dark and mysterious Edward Cullen from the Twilight series as a part of her project.

She has gained national attention with her story, and is about to stroll down the aisle at the world famous Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. We will be reporting on this Las Vegas “first,” right after the ceremony.

An Australian Surprise at Viva Las Vegas

A romantic gesture is carried out by a Groom who is about to marry his Bride in Australia in May. The surprise felt like a scene out of a movie…but it truly was better. Our Groom had his lovely soon to be Bride dress like Marilyn Monroe. Then came the girls role in having the bride whisked away in a limousine wearing a blindfold and headphones. The Bride is brought along to the secret location~The Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel.

Our Bride is walked upstairs to the Elvis and Priscilla room where her Groom awaits her arrival for a surprise commitment ceremony. The Groom is dressed like Elvis and his friends are all dressed in flight suits that say “Top Gun.” The gals all join them, and the blindfold comes off.

Elvis is their minister and the great ceremony begins. All 24 of them traveled from down under to make this a weekend to remember and it truly was a bachelor and bachelorette’s weekend. The Groom had one more surprise and it was an outfit that had everyone in stitches. Just look for the flowers below.

Then the guys were off to go race car driving, the gals were off to lay out at a cabana by the pool and the strip clubs were to follow to finish off the ultimate bachelor and bachelorette’s weekend.

Cheers to our happy couple and their great friends!
