This week Viva Las Vegas Weddings is commemorating the 40th anniversary of Elvis’s death. It’s hard to believe how many years have gone by. Elvis is always near our hearts here at the chapel, since we hear renditions of his best-known songs every day– both in his recordings (played in the background as Elvis weddings are being rehearsed) and as performed live by our amazing Elvis Tribute Artists.

Although the spirit of Elvis seems to be all around us on a daily basis, we at Viva Las Vegas Weddings never seem to get tired of hearing his songs. Instead, we’re humbled by the small way we are able to continue his legacy. We still dance around to his tunes when no one’s looking. And who knew Elvis’s memory would forever be shared by happy couples as a part of binding their lives together, beginning a lifetime of wedded bliss?

Some people think Elvis weddings take away from the sanctity of marriage. But we–and many of our couples–see it as adding to the joy of the occasion. We’ve always said that we see as many tears at Elvis weddings as at any traditional ceremony here. When guests jump up and dance to “Viva Las Vegas” at the end of the vows, the love in the chapel is absolutely palpable!

It’s intriguing that Elvis wasn’t really associated with Las Vegas at all until his later years and his residency at the International Hotel–now the Westgate. (Although he and Priscilla were married here at the old Aladdin Hotel.) But today Elvis has become one of the city’s symbols. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

We miss you, Elvis. You’re still “The King.” And, thank ya very much.

Today is the anniversary of the death of Elvis Aron Presley. We’ll be doing our fun and kitschy Elvis weddings today as always, but likely with a special reverence and a nod to the icon who is now a Las Vegas legend as well as a music legend. Many couples who come to Vegas to tie the knot with an Elvis impersonator are now far too young to have any firsthand memories of the King of Rock ‘n Roll, but still acknowledge his inexorable connection to the city and to its particular mystique.

Did you know our Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel features a gift shop of Elvis memorabilia in our lobby/waiting area? You can pick up a souvenir of your wedding day if you like, or buy one for the happy couple. We have everything from t-shirts to holiday ornaments. It’s a nice way to remember your special day, and also to remember Elvis. You’d be surprised how many couples who are “only” having a Traditional wedding at our chapel pick up the odd Elvis license plate frame or sunglasses!

Remember you can always add Elvis to any Themed wedding or Traditional wedding to perform a song and/or to escort the bride down the aisle. We’ve even done Intergalactic Star Wars or Trek-style weddings with an appearance by The King at the end to sing “Viva Las Vegas” and get everyone dancing in the aisle! Just ask us for details and tell us your ideas when you call to book your wedding or wedding vow renewal with us, 702-384-0771. Or chat with us live online at www.vivalasvegasweddings.com
RIP, Elvis. You are remembered here every day by so many people, in the most happy and respectful of ways…Viva Las Vegas, Viva Elvis!

You Can’t Have Too Many Elvis’s at Your Viva Las Vegas Wedding!

Elvis wedding in Vegas
Several Elvi and….Marilyn? A Viva Las Vegas Wedding!

Especially if you’re renewing your vows in Las Vegas (for a special anniversary, or just because) it’s perfectly okay to get as silly as you want with your Elvis wedding. But you can have fun and still have a meaningful and memorable time, even if it’s your first wedding. (We’ve cried at just as many Elvis weddings as traditional ones.) So, if you want to dress up as Elvis yourself, with the bride as Marilyn, and even get your guests involved in the Elvis masquerade–we say, go for it! We even rent the Elvis and Marilyn costumes. Come as you are!

Our costume shop is located right behind the chapel. We’ve got jumpsuits, wigs, glasses, jackets, everything you need to feel like THE KING. (And, if you’re doing one of our fabulous themed weddings, we’ve got gangster costumes, sci-fi costumes, Egyptian costumes, Camelot-Ren-Faire type costumes…you name it!) Of course, you can always bring your own instead! (And, if yours will be a traditional wedding, we DO have a tux rental shop, too.)

When you visit our chapel, our lobby entrance has on display a wide variety of Elvis memorabilia for souvenirs of the wedding day. Your guests can browse while waiting for everyone to arrive. If they wish, they can purchase Elvis shades, t-shirts, alarm clocks, bobble heads…You get the idea. But we don’t mind if you just want to look around at all the cool stuff.

Had he lived, Elvis would be celebrating his 81st birthday on January 8th. We’ll have that in mind this week as we respectfully perform our many Elvis wedding ceremonies for the brides and grooms who are dedicated fans, or who simply love the mystique and fun nostalgia surrounding the memory of the legendary performer.

Elvis wedding Las Vegas
Not the real deal, but we come as close as we can for your unforgettable Elvis wedding ceremony!

January 8th, Elvis’s birthday, is a popular wedding day here at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. But if you’re planning a spring wedding, May 1st, the anniversary of Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding, is a great day to book your Elvis Pink Caddy or Elvis Blue Hawaii wedding package. The two were married at the old Aladdin Hotel (now Planet Hollywood) in Las Vegas. Lots of folks like to dress up as Elvis and Priscilla for a light-hearted wedding or wedding vow renewal ceremony. We even rent costumes—or, bring your own! (Sometimes it’s just the shades and sideburns, and the veil!)

This week Viva Las Vegas Weddings (and the world!) will be commemorating the 38th anniversary of Elvis’s death. It’s hard to believe he’s been gone that long. Elvis is ever-present in our hearts here at the chapel. We hear his music every single day, both in his recordings (played in the background as Elvis weddings are being rehearsed) and as performed live by our amazing Elvis Tribute Artists.

Even though Elvis is all around us on a daily basis, you’d be hard pressed to find a staff member at Viva Las Vegas who ever gets tired of hearing his songs. Instead, we’re humbled by the small way we are able to carry out his legacy. We still dance around to his tunes when no one’s looking. And who knew Elvis’s memory would forever be shared by happy couples as a part of binding their lives together, beginning a lifetime of wedded bliss?

Does anyone know how it came to be “the thing to do”—to get married by “Elvis” in Las Vegas? Seriously. We’ve been doing some research and can’t find ANYTHING. If you know, or have any good guesses, please share with us in the comments section. We’ve been performing Elvis weddings in Las Vegas since the 90’s and haven’t a clue. Even though we remember Elvis every day, we can’t remember when there weren’t Elvis weddings in Vegas.

We miss you, Elvis. You’re still “The King.” And, thank ya very much.
