Why Marriage is Not For YOU

Secrets to a happy marriage
How do you know he or she is THE ONE?

At Viva Las Vegas Weddings, we’re always defending the sincerity of the wedding ceremonies performed here, mostly because Las Vegas has somehow gotten a reputation for quickie, less-than-heartfelt vows. That’s not what we see on a daily basis. We see the same love, joy and tears one would expect in a church wedding back home. But each couple here has chosen to go about the formalities a bit differently than most. And, in our opinion, that’s as it should be. Having the right ceremony for YOU.

But how does any bride or groom know they’re marrying the right person? We came across a blog that stunned us in its simple approach to this universal mystery. In the past, we’ve shared advice from our insightful ministers and wedding professionals. But this particular philosophy knocked us all on our tushies: “MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR YOU!”

Don’t panic if you’re about to head to the altar. What this means is that you don’t marry someone to make you happy. You marry someone to make them happy. When you marry, it’s about fulfilling the other person’s wants, hopes and dreams. You marry because you know you can make the other person’s life happier than anyone else can. Not marrying for you simply means that you plan to consider the other person first in all you do. You are willing to make compromises for the sake of the other’s happiness. (And, by the way, this willingness and perspective must go both ways.)
